Artist's Description

Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada. Permanent population, about 50. Visitors every year, tens of thousands. A tiny fishing village on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean, about an hour’s drive south of Halifax depending upon which road you take and how many stops you make along the way.First settled around 1766, it became a formal village in 1811, and eventually attained a population of about 300. World-famous for it’s lighthouse,(built in 1914 to replace the original which dated from 1868), granite rocks and the surging sea, it’s home to a small group of friendly people who patiently put up with the hordes of tourists who descend upon them every year. The historic St. John’s Anglican Church, the only church in Peggy’s Cove, is a municipally designated heritage site.Approximately 2,000 acres around the village are a Protected Area, which prohibits development in the area, and restricts development within the village itself, thus preserving the rugged beauty and the historic significance.
