Artist's Description

Just outside Caraquet, New BRunswick,Canada is the Acadian Village, a reconstruction of life as it was in the period 1780 to 1880, on the farms and in the villages of the Acadian settlers of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The village contains about 20 buildings which were located at various places in the province, dismantled, and reconstructed in the Village.
Among them are working farms, where wool from sheep is washed, teased, carded and spun. Sit in the schoolhouse, which catered to grades one to eight, and try your hand at a slate and slate pencil. The water-powered grist mill works perfectly with it’s 1890’s machinery. The bread lady will show you her outdoor and indoor ovens, which can bake 30 loaves at a time. All in all, you will get a good understanding of what it was like to be a settler in the early days of colonization.
