Athabaska Glacier is part of the Columbia Icefield in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. It’s one of the main attractions in this section of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Being close to the Icefields Parkway which runs through Jasper and Banff National Parks, and quite accessible, it’s probably the most visited glacier in North America. Approximately 300 meters (1,000 ft.) deep at the maximum, the glacier is slowly retreating and has lost about half it’s volume over the past 125 years.
