Esquimalt Lagoon is located on the south west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Esquimalt is part of Metro Victoria, and the lagoon is a sanctuary for migrating birds, being on the west coast flyway between the Arctic and the wintering grounds farther south. Because of the mild climate, many ducks, geese and swans never go past the lagoon, and stay here all winter, providing a wonderful opportunity to observe and photograph them in a natural environment. It’s also a place where people interact with the birds and establish a mutual trust. This little girl is one of many, young and old, who spend many hours in close companionship with wild birds.
