I was trying to think of a better title, but decided that just the name would be the best tribute I could give to this remarkable aircraft. She was one of several that were part of 408 Photo Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force and used for the photographic and mapping survey of all Canada. Originally built in 1943 as far as I could find out,and after many bombing runs during the war, she was refitted with long range tanks to be able to fly for up to 24 hours in the long daylight hours in the Arctic summer. She was based at Rockcliffe airfield, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, where I was a member of the Squadron.

This was taken in 1953 with an Exakta 35mm.SLR, 50mm.Biotar lens, and Kodachrome ASA10 film.
Scanned at 4000dpi in 2004 with a Canoscan4000US scanner.

Good shot of an old bomber. Reminds me of an old B-17 we have here locally.

  • Thanks again Jeffery, I used to fly a few times in this old girl, quite an experience. I can only imagine what it was like on a night raid during the war. I guess there’s lots of the old planes preserved here and there. We have an F86 Sabre jet mounted on a pedestal here in Sidney, B.C., and some other old-timers in the local aircraft museum.
