Awhile ago I posted a shot of this storm coming in over the Rocky mountains in Kootenay National Park, in south-eastern British Columbia, Canada. The park is about 550 square miles and was formed in 1920 as part of an agreement to construct the Banff-Windermere highway. We encountered all sorts of “mountain weather” on this trip, with very sudden and sometimes violent storms coming up out of nowhere, but providing some great photo-ops. I had to stop and shoot this out the side window. It was raining so hard, if you look very closely at the pavement you can see the rain dancing off the roadbed.
BTW, this may look like a monochrome shot, but it isn’t, and it shows how a storm like this does a good job of wiping out most colours.

Sept. 7, 2009, Fuji S100FS camera.

Wow! What a storm! Great, great shot, George!

  • Thanks Mike..it was a real car-rocker! Those people were driving quite slowly, the windshield wipers weren’t really doing a good job, so I pulled over and waited for some photo-ops..lol!

If ever a picture told a story!!! Absolutely fabulous old buddy! A dream photo just waiting to be taken but I guarantee not many would have appreciated as you did! I viewed it larger and then took a screen shot and viewed it full size on my 23" monitor – boy oh boy!! LOL Excellent work indeed.
    Regards
    Peter

  • So glad you liked it Peter! I’m sure a few people who drove past must have had some comments about the guy parked in a lay-by and using a camera..lol! We saw the storm coming and couldn’t believe how fast and powerful it was. Good thing it wasn’t snow, we’d still be there:)))
    All the best,
    George

  • Hi Lyn, and thank you..I really love wild weather patterns, especially in the mountains or along the coasts, so this was a delight for me!
