Crowfoot Glacier,in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada,is 32 km (20 miles) northwest of Lake Louise and east of the Continental Divide.Runoff from it supplies water to the Bow River. Since the end of the Little Ice Age, the glacier has retreated and lost one lobe, so it no longer looks like the original name.

Taken Sept. 5, 2009, Fuji S100FS camera.

What a wonderful scene, George. Absolutely marvellous shot!

  • Thanks Mike, I hope some day to get back there in the early spring when there’s more snow accumulation, I’d like to see what difference it makes:)

At first glance – and before reading your description – I thought this was an ultra fabulous rough sea shot! In fact even though I now know better it still has that appearance. But a glacier! WOW! Something we certainly don’t have but which I imagine is a sight you are probably quite used to seeing. Taking the shot wouldn’t have been easy and I see you were once again using the Fuji instead of the Sony. I really enjoy seeing these “different” scenes from your part of the world – just wonderful.
    All the best

Hi Peter, good to see you again, and glad you liked this one. I don’t see glaciers very often myself, you have to go into the high mountains (Rockies) and that’s a very solid day’s drive from here just to get into the foothills. This one was taken on the 4th. day of the trip.I have some others that I’ll post later on. Regarding the Sony, Jann and I used to share it but when I got the Fuji she captured the Sony..she likes it better! The Fuji is a bit bulkier but it also has a 400mm. zoom which I use quite a lot for landscapes especially. She likes the 200mm. on the Sony for flowers and gardens. We swap now and! Glad you enjoy the mountain pics, Jann has posted quite a few also. Her site is if you’d like to take a look. Actually, I think you already have! Getting forgetful!!
    Cheers Peter,
