At the base of the Falls, the Athabaska River has carved out a deep, narrow gorge which can be reached by climbing down 59 steps that wind through layers of rock formations, and then carefully getting around some corners to be able to see into the gorge. The problem is a constant atmosphere of heavy mist, so you have to wait for a gust of wind to come along and clear things up a bit. Have the camera ready and under cover until the right moment, as it doesn’t last long! And don’t fall in, because nobody has survived so far!
Athabaska Falls is in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada, in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
