Athabaska Falls, Jasper National Park, Alberta,Canada. At the crest of the falls, this huge chunk of rock defies the power of the river and divides the falls into two sections for a very short distance.Though it’s not the highest falls in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, it’s known for the sheer power and volume of water as the river narrows and plunges into the gorge it’s carved in the bedrock.

Taken Sept. 5, 2009, Fuji S100FS camera.

Your kidding me, this is astounding! Looks like someone has been over on it with the tree poles! Fav mate!

  • Hi Adrian! It does look like that, doesn’t it! It’s a wonderful place to see, but it takes it’s toll. Quite a few people have fallen in and nobody has survived. A young fellow did that just recently. The Park rangers recover the bodies somewhere downstream, sometimes quite a long time after they fall. Beautiful place but caution is the big word..lol!

    Ah yes I recognise this one…..great capture George…..looks awesome : )

  • Thanks Sean..yes, this is one of the most memorable sights I would imagine, so clearly seen from all angles. Amazing how it’s managed to survive the beating it takes.

Ohhh amazing, what a fabulous place and photo :-)

  • Thanks Kymie, glad you liked it. It’s one of those places with endless possibilities, but you need the time to wander around and search them out.

Wonderful shot, George. Brings out the sheer power of the falls.

  • Thanks again Mike, I’m amazed it’s stood the beating from the river all those years. I think it’s quartzite, though I’m not really certain of that.
