It’s been photographed countless times, and is recognized all over the world. But I had to take my own personal version of Spirit Island! The little island is at the south-west end of Maligne Lake, in Jasper National Park, Alberta,Canada. The turquoise waters indicate the lake is glacier fed, and the ranges of the Canadian Rocky Mountains surround it on all sides.

It’s still a stunning image, no matter how many times it’s been shot, George!

  • Hi Merrilyn, and thanks very much for stopping by. I first saw a picture of Lake Maligne when I was about 10 years old and I finally got there when I was 78! You can’t rush these things! But it was worth the wait:)

A stunning shot of a stunning location. Nice work George.

  • Many thanks Gavin, it really is one of those places that you just have to stop and stare, and be thankful you managed to see it in person. So glad you liked it!

I agree you can’t rush these things, George. I’m Australian and have not yet visited Ayers Rock (Uluru). It’s on my To Do list! (As is more of Canada!!)

    Stunning capture with brilliant colours.

  • Thanks Andrew, that was a day with every possible combination of sky-scapes, but the sun was just right by the time I got to that place. Waited so many years and worth every minute of it!
