Wind building up fast, black storm clouds and white-caps starting to appear; all signs of a sudden Fall storm coming in from the Strait of Georgia. Here at Sidney, on Vancouver Island, boaters are tying up at a launching ramp at Tulista Park. In the background, the “Chelan” of Washington State Ferries awaits passengers for her next run with passengers and vehicles from Sidney to Anacortes in Washington State, threading her way through the maze of B.C.’s Gulf Islands and then the San Juan Island group in the USA. This route is a popular one with tourists who want to take a short cut between Canada and the USA without having to go up to Vancouver and then double back to catch the larger ferries at Tsawassen.
