I’ve had this Christmas Cactus plant for 18 years and it’s never bloomed at Christmas! Today,Nov.7th., there’s at least 40 blooms already out or on the way, and probably twice that many yet to come. And it blooms usually 3 times a year, sometimes in the middle of summer. I’ve never followed the prescribed methods of caring for it, just give it water and plant food now and then, and it seems to be quite happy. The blooms are very soft and delicate, with very faint “fuzz” along the edges which makes it look like soft focus.

Hi Sean, and thank you. I took this off a display table at a trade show about 18 years ago, it was about 3 inches high! We’ve transplanted it 2 or 3 times as it outgrew the pots. I don’t think it has ever bloomed the same time from one year to the next. Always a surprise event..lol!!

Beautiful shot, George. Lovely blooms. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one bloom…

  • Thanks Mike..this one takes several months between bloomings, and I have no idea what triggers the event. The timing varies from year to year, sometimes only 2 or 3 months apart, other times 6 or more. It has a mind of it’s own!!

    Beautifully shot. Beautiful flower.

  • Thanks Wanda, I’m always happy to see these blooms, they really are quite lovely. Problem is they don’t last too long, only a few days.

    Great shot, George !
The delicacy of the flower comes through beautifully. :)

  • Thanks Stan. It’s really a tricky one to shoot, the petals go out in all directions and the main stem (?) shoots out the front. Trying to get decent focus on the whole thing is fun and games..:)

    Beautiful dear George.

  • Many thanks Anna, that plant is my pride and joy, despite my almost zero knowledge of how to treat plants, this one tolerates me and just keeps getting better..:))

Wonderful!!! Love these plants and flowers when they bloom!

  • Thanks Monica, very much appreciated. This one has been in a quiet state for about 7 months but it’s about to break all records! I think I have counted almost 50 blooms on it today, and about 10 are already opened. It’s making up for lost time,,lol!
