Snowpack,Maligne Lake by George Cousins

About half-way down the length of Maligne Lake, in Jasper National Park, Alberta,Canada. Ranges of the Rocky Mountains border both sides of the lake, and the sun broke through the clouds just long enough to highlight the snow trapped in the crevasses along the mountain sides.Lower down towards the tree-line, a solid snowpack stretches across the upper reaches of the valley.

This looks awesome in large view George……Gorgeous shot and oh I think I have seen that sky too many times this year lol. Looks wonderful in this shot though !!

  • Hi Sean..many thanks! I saw way too much of that kind of sky when we were on that trip, but it did help get some drama in a lot of shots. At least it wasn’t just pale gray..lol! I really loved the mountains around Maligne, so many wonderful views :)

Brilliant image- love the dim light.

  • Thanks very much, there was a lot of dim light on that trip, but I thought it did add some ambience to the shots. Glad you liked it!

Great capture of that moment of balance when a dark and gloomy day is about to transform into a beautiful, sparkling winter sunny day… or not!

  • Hi there..thanks for dropping by.. it was very windy at the upper heights and clouds and sun changed almost by the second. It was a matter of keeping in focus and a finger on the button until the magic moment arrived, and hope it would..lol!

  • Hi Tori, it really was a case of “watchful waiting” for those few rays of sunshine, but it did work finally..:)

Nice foreboding atmosphere here, George. Great shot!

  • Thanks Mike, I really go for the dark dramatic skyscapes, and that trip provided lots of them!

  • Hi Riggzy..many thanks! Hope things are going well for you. We are being deluged in the November rains..today also had thunderstorms and a few minutes of snow, all within about 15 minutes..lol! But..no shoveling yet:)

Now this is something I’ve never seen, and probably never will…
thankfully, you’ve pointed your camera at it long enough to have given me a taste of what I’m missing out on! It looks rugged, cold & spectacular.

  • Hi Shallay, never say never! It took me a lifetime to get to some of these places and they’re in my own country..lol! This was taken the first week of September, but in the high mountains there’s always snow and ice all year round.
