The Assistant by George Cousins

When the ocean liner Queen Mary 2 made her initial call at Halifax,Nova Scotia, Canada,in 2004, Theodore Too was standing by to help out if needed! If fact, TT is usually on hand to help anyone and anything that may need it. Some years ago, a TV writer decided to produce a local TV children’s show about a tugboat on a harbour, who talked to other tugboats and ships. The show, (Theodore Tugboat)) gained a great deal of popularity,at one time being aired in 80 countries, including PBS in the USA. So much so, that it was decided to create a real Theodore and add the “Too”. Since then, the tug has been a major attraction on Halifax Harbour.

There is a wonderful and very complete story behind this, so take a look at, and spend a few minutes to appreciate the work that went into a
charming children’s show and why it was so popular.

By the way, The Queen Mary 2 docked by herself!

Talk about coincidence. My daughter just sent me a pic of the very same tugboat ! She was in Halifax for one, count them, 1 complete day (with some spill over).
Cool shot of a cool tug, George ! :)

  • Wow! One whole day!!! Well, at least she captured Theo! if you get time, read that story on wikipedia, it’s pretty interesting. Hope she enjoyed herself in whatever spare time she had.

  • Hi David..thanks for the compliments..glad you liked it, the tugboat is full sized and is one of the big attractions on the harbour at Halifax. There’s another called the Harbour Hopper, I must remember to post that one too lol!

Oh isn’t he beautiful! And I bet the children on the ferry were thrilled to pieces to see him alongside!

  • LOL! He grew out of a children’s TV show that was produced there in Halifax, so kids really get a blast when they see the real thing. It’s a major attraction of the harbour:)
