H.M.S.Bounty-Sailpast by George Cousins

The replica of the famed ship of Captain Bligh and the mutineers, this copy of the H.M.S.Bounty was built by the craftsmen of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada, for the movie starring Marlon Brando. I believe it was also used in one of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies recently. The ship often travels to various ports on promotional cruises, and in this photo she is sailing in the sailpast of the Tall Ships Festival in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

I like the look to these old ships. Reminds you of simpler times, not the hustle and bustle of modern life to get nowhere in a hurry. :)

  • I agree, I feel the same way. Though I’m glad I never worked on one in those old days, life was pretty bad. The Bounty inside is in perfect detail and it’s an eye-opener to see how sailors had to live.

Beautiful shot of a grand ship, George.

  • I was lucky to get her under sail and in the right position for a good shot. The only way to get good shots at a sailpast is to hire a boat and go for it:)

Such an awesome capture George……Massive and impressive……This ship looks oh so powerful !!

  • Thanks Sean..she has had a perfect sailing record as far as I know, but having been built in Lunenburg, that’s not surprising. They’ve been building tough ships there since the 1700’s.

Congratulations on your feature. It’s a lovely capture of a beautiful ship. BTW… I had a physics teacher in high school (Alberta) named George Cousins. :D

  • Hi Anne, thanks very much for your kind comments. I’ve never come across any Cousins in Alberta, but hope he was a good teacher..lol! My lasting impression of high school physics was when an experiment went slightly wrong and blew out a window. Oh well…!!
