The North Thompson River is one of the major river systems in south-central British Columbia, and is named after David Thompson, an explorer,fur-trader and surveyor who mapped over 3.9 million square kilometers of western Canada and the United States, and has been described as the greatest land geographer who ever lived. Among his accomplishments, he was the first white man to navigate the Columbia River from it’s source in the B.C. mountains,all the way to it’s final meeting with the Pacific Ocean.
