I’ve posted these two images together because they overlap, and together they give a wider area of view. Taken from the top of Mount Maxwell on Saltspring Island, this is another view of the Gulf Islands of British Columbia. In the left centre is the same ship shown in the previous image, traveling down the Strait of Georgia in the shipping channel between Canada and the United States.
The far island is San Juan, Washington State, part of the large group known as the San Juan Islands collectively. All of the others are Canadian. The one at right centre, with the long curving beach and sand bar, is Sidney Island, and the town of Sidney is just off screen to the right. It’s the first town you find when you land on Vancouver Island by either ferry or aircraft.
Not counting Saltspring, there are 15 Canadian Gulf Islands visible, (also not counting one little one with only a few trees on it).
Off on the horizon, the water extends south into Puget Sound and on to Seattle and other ports, and west through the Strait of Juan De Fuca to the open Pacific Ocean.
Taken with a Sony DSCF828 camera, summer of 2007.
