Every year I try to come back to Cape Breton Island, where I was born and grew up. It will always be home, with it’s wild beauty and sea-bound coasts, the highlands and beaches, and the unspoiled byways and quiet places where the world has not yet intruded.
My partner Jann took this shot of me sitting on a bench at Cabot Park, in the Northern part of the Island. In front of me is a small part of Aspy Bay ,the waves of the Atlantic Ocean, and a little bit of the miles of pristine beaches. This is one of the places where John Cabot possibly landed in 1497 on his historic voyage to the New World. The other possibility is on the coast of Newfoundland. The hills in the background are part of Cape Breton Highlands National Park.
Taken in the autumn of 2006 with a Sony DSCF828 camera.
