During the 50 years I’ve been going back to Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, I’ve often met people like this couple, who seek out their own private spot on the giant granite rocks and just want to stay there and find their own personal peace with the land, sea and sky.
There’s something very comforting in sitting among the rocks which even the retreating glaciers of the last Ice Age couldn’t move, and watching the surging Atlantic have no better success. Add to this, a beautiful sunny day in September 2006 and neither they, nor I, had any desire to be anywhere else than here.
Peggy’s Cove is a tiny fishing village (permanent population about 50) which attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. It’s about 30 miles south of Halifax, easily reached by car, tour bus, cycling or tour boat, and is a paradise for photographers, artists, lovers of wild ocean and coastal scenery, and the finest of seafood.
Taken with a Sony DSCF828 camera.

Beautiful capture George. I have heard so much of Peggy’s Cove but yet to visit this beautiful area. Thanks for sharing this : )

  • Getting old and stupid Sean! I wrote you a reply and didn’t send it!!! Anyway, thank you for your comment. If you get the chance to go there, do it around mid-Sept. to Mid-Oct., the fall colours are at the peak, weather is really great, most tourists have gone home and you’ll get marvelous photos. And don’t forget the seafood, it can’t be beat anywhere else:))

I think it is the sound of the sea crashing against the rocks that people find so appealing . Lovely shot George .

  • I agree entirely’s what attracts me so much, and doesn’t matter if it’s just a ripple or a thunderous burst of’s all good! When I get back home this is the first place I head for, and always spend many days there. And the seafood is the best!!!
