The little village of Bear River is in Annapolis County, on the southern end of Nova Scotia, Canada. It dates back to the 1700’s, and at one time was an important shipping port. With the passage of time it’s gradually turned into a haven for artists and craftsmen of all sorts, and has quite a concentration of very skilled artisans and excellent gift shops. The roads and byways are narrow and winding, as most of the early homes were built right beside the original wagon roads and when they were eventually paved, well, there didn’t seem much reason to straighten them out. This picture was taken in October 2005, on a very rainy day when the autumn colours of the hardwoods was in full beauty.
Camera was a Sony DSCF828.

Very pretty colors in this !! Likw rhe red house in this, kind of looks very virbrant and unique !!

  • Thanks Sean! When my Dad was 16, he shipped out of Bear River as deckhand on a lumber schooner. His family had good friends there, but they had all passed on long before I managed to get there myself, but I’d heard about it when I was a kid. Very pretty little place.
