For The Queen by George Cousins

A small section of the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Decorated for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth ll on June 3, 1953. I was stationed in Ottawa at the time and took this image about midnight a few days before the actual coronation.
The camera was an Exakta Varex 35mm. SLR, using Kodachrome film ,ASA 10, F 2.0 Biotar lens and probably several seconds exposure wide open on a tripod. Scanned in 2004 with a Canoscan 4000US scanner.

Terrific photo George with so much detail that is so easy to see due to tight focusing and use of a tripod. This is a photo to keep, for sure and is yet another great scan. Peter

  • Thanks Peter, glad you liked it. I have several others that I’ll post eventually. They all scanned quite well, and considering the slow film and long exposure times, I was quite happy to see they stood up so well over time.

Excellent night photography George, with an excellent associated read.

  • Thanks Larry, at least it was a nice warm night, not like most of my midnight forays which too often were in winter..:)I always liked the old faithful Kodachrome for really good images, even if it took forever to expose!

    Nice work, George. :)
Looks even better in the larger view !

  • Thanks Stan, and I agree, the larger view is better. In fact if you can blow it up on an image viewer, the detail is quite good. Better than I expected, but Kodachrome really was a great film, even though so slow.

  • Hi Mike, thanks a lot, much appreciated! I keep looking up old ones and I’m always surprised how well they’ve scanned over the length of time.
