Well partner, we’ve had a long haul across the fields and over the hills, and now we’re here at this river. What d’ya say? Can we shinny down the bank and get across? And get back in time for supper? Will Ma be out looking for us? Hmmmm. let’s just think about this..what’s for supper? Can’t go tooo far.. maybe we better just stay right here and call it a day..

My 3-year old son, on the right with the six-gun in his holster (gotta watch out for varmints,ya know) enticed his buddy from down the road to go exploring through the back acres and came to the edge of the Annapolis River, in Nova Scotia,Canada, back in September 1959. Caution prevailed, so we didn’t have to go fish them out. The joys of youth and the fun of exploring!

Taken with an Exakta Varex 35mm SLR, F2.0 Biotar lens, Ektachrome film and other details lost in time.
Scanned in 2004 with a Canoscan 4000US scanner.

Beautiful place and the boys set the picture wonderfully. I can almost imagine there eyes looking in awe.

  • Hi Wanda, and thank you. This was the first time they had ventured that far from our house, and I followed them at a discreet distance. They were very careful, I was quite proud of them..:)

    Another good one, George !!
The boys look totally engrossed with the river.

  • Oh, they really were..they didn’t know it was there! We had only come from Toronto about a week before,to start a 2 -year contract, and the other boy was an airman’s son who was almost as new as we were, so they had a great time doing their exploring.
