Almost every year, someone gets drowned at Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, because of ignoring the many warning signs to stay away from the edges of the rocks and cliffs. The Atlantic storms drive water and seaweed far up on the rocks, making them very slippery at any time, but especially when wet. Yet people will dare to get to the edge for that special picture. I know, I do it too, but I’ve been coming there for 50 years and I pay attention! I followed these folks around and they were mostly very careful, but a sudden big wave sent them running for higher ground. If they had stayed down in that gulley between the granite rocks, the wave and the undertow could easily have pulled them in, and once in, there’s little chance of getting out.

    LOL.
Definitely had them on the run !!
    Good one, George !! :)

  • Thanks Stan! I thought it was a good title, because that was what came into my mind when I saw that wave coming. Must say, they were pretty careful, but he was really getting close to the edge. She was much more cautious!

    Great info and candid shot.

  • Thanks Wanda, I took a series of these folks, but this one seemed to have the most interest :) They really were a little too close, the Atlantic is very unforgiving to the unwary!

Very nice capture – and a good warning to potential tourists. A young local lad hauled a Montreal tourist out of those waters just a couple of days ago – cold, embarrassed, but unharmed.

  • Hi Mike, thank you.. yes, I was just on the phone with my son in Halifax and we were discussing that incident. The person was extremely lucky, and the lad who jumped in deserves a medal. He quite literally risked his own life.
