August 24, 2007. A heavily-laden container ship of China Shipping Lines , out of Vancouver, British Columbia, sails westward in the Strait of Juan de Fuca between Vancouver Island and the Olympic Mountains of Washington State in the background. At the western end of the strait she will enter the open Pacific and on to her next port of Call. Not especially beautiful or streamlined ships, but container ships are the backbone of world-wide freight commerce.
The sun had just set, leaving a beautiful set of pastel colours over the sky and mountains, contrasting with the deep blue of the Strait.

Nice work, George. With the misty background it does feel like its sailing off into the great unknown.

  • Thanks Stan, they’re a common sight in the Strait but I’ve always had a fascination with ships and wondering about their voyages.Guess it comes from Dad being in the Merchant Marine and me trying to follow him on maps when I was in grade school..lol!
