, sailor’s delight. Or so the old saying goes. We often visit Martinique Beach on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia, which is the longest beach in the province, is quite good for surfing, and also is part of a large protected bird sanctuary. So there’s something for everyone, and miles of beach to explore. As it’s somewhat off the beaten track, there’s lots of space for everyone. This evening in September 2005 we decided to stay until after dark and were rewarded with a really flaming sunset over a relatively quiet Atlantic Ocean.
For those who may want to visit, take Highway 7 east from Dartmouth for about 30 miles to the village of Musquodoboit Harbour, and watch for the Martinique Beach sign on your right. The road is paved and well maintained and ends right at the beach so you can’t get lost. There are change rooms and toilets but no canteens or other food, so pack a lunch if you plan to stay awhile. Leave the world behind, and be happy for doing so.

    Great colour, George. Good work!!

  • Thanks Stan, that evening there was one other couple on the whole beach, perfect place to get away from it all.

red sky at night, sailor’s delight. heard that from my grandmother. great work…very delightful! ;)

  • Hi Ralph. Thanks for the comment. I guess that old saying is known all over the world. I heard it from my Grandfather, who was a deep-sea fisherman, probably when I was just starting to talk. Too many years ago..lol!

Stunning shot…well worth the wait for sure! :)

  • Thanks Gail, it’s a beautiful beach to just spend hours with nature. Having the bird sanctuary there is a real plus, though it’s all little shore birds and hard to photo.

beautiful shot…I have a shot called sailor take warning… the sunrise version of the rhyme..anyway it gave me a bit of a smile to see your title….
    Stunning beach by the way…

  • Thanks Della, it’s an old rhyme that I guess lots of us learned when we were young. Hard to think up titles sometimes but this one sort of popped up and fitted. Martinique is a wonderful beach, always so peaceful, I’ve never seen anything like a crowd.
