Cap Rouge, Cape Breton Island by

One of the world’s most scenic drives is the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Starting and ending at Baddeck, on the Bras d’Or Lakes, it winds in a rough circle which crosses the island twice and more or less encloses Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Along the way there are numerous small villages and fishing ports, and spectacular scenery along the western coast which fronts on the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and the east coast fronting on the Atlantic Ocean. This view is on the west coast heading south over the slopes of Cap Rouge towards the village of Cheticamp, a centre of Acadian culture and art, as well as a fishing port. Taken in September 2006 with a Sony DSCF828 camera.

With scenery like this, I have to do this trip, George. Is that gorgeous or what ??

  • That’s just a teaser,Stan..lol! You can do the Trail in a day, but when you go, take two or more. There’s so much to see and lots of little side roads.
I always think September is the best month, or early October if you want to be there when the leaves change.

Great shot ….I have done the trail a couple of times…everytime I am in awe of the beauty. Hard not to be..

  • Hi Della..you’re right, it’s always beautiful no matter how many times. I first went over it when I was about 15, in an old oil delivery truck, all gravel of course. Many years later about 1957 I think, my Dad and I drove it again and came upon the paving machines, couldn’t believe our eyes..lol!

    Absolutely stunning.

  • Thanks Anne, glad you liked it. Where are you in the Maritimes? Always glad to meet another one from down home. I’ll be back again this year, if all goes well.
