On top of MacKenzie Mountain on the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, October 2005, we came across a small group of moose grazing in a swampy area. They were a bit wary of us at first but by staying quiet and being patient, they gradually seemed to adopt the “Watchful waiting” attitude, long enough to get a few good shots. We didn’t push our luck! Cape Breton Island is part of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, on the east coast.
Taken with a Sony DSCF828 camera.

Wow, what a fabulous capture. How close were you to them?

  • Thanks Teresa, we were about 30 feet from them, so we kept very quiet until they decided we were OK, then took a few shots and backed away very slowly.

  • Thanks Irene, we were very lucky to find them, they’re very shy most of the time.

Congratulation with your featured photo he or she is a movie star

  • Thanks Dotje, and she is the star. There was a bull farther back in the trees but there were two cows in a fairly open spot which made the shot possible. One was too hidden but this one was just perfect.
