On the shores of the Arctic Ocean east of Coppermine, Canadian North-West Territories, in the summer of 1955. Once in awhile we saw rainbows but seldom had the chance to get a photo. This one occured in early evening, and with clear skies, no pollution or dust (no people!) the colours were brilliant. There is a trace of a double just to the left of the main one. There’s a faint glimpse of pack ice out on the ocean. The land was typical tundra, only a few inches down was permafrost, and it extended hundreds of miles south to the treeline. We were establishing a survey camp at the time this was taken.
Taken with an Exakta Varex 35mm.SLR, Kodachrome ASA10 film, Biotar F.20 lens, and possibly a polarizing filter..I can’t remember.Scanned with a Canoscan 4000US scanner in 2004. Very slight application of dust filter after scanning. My slides were always stored in Carousel trays, in boxes, but it’s hard to avoid some dust motes over 49 years.

That’s pretty spectacular, George. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen one come down at this angle. It’s almost vetical.
Thanks Stan. I remember wishing I had a really wide angle lens, but the Biotar was 50mm. There was no way to get anything like the full arc, so I settled for this one.And I wanted to get the guys in it too, just to add more memories. We did a lot of traveling together.

Thanks Pauline, I was lucky to get it. Three years in the Arctic and I only managed two or three rainbows. Your comment is much appreciated.
