Ive seen dozens of sunsets at Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, but seldom one that had that “pastel” look, more like a painting than a photo (at least to my eye..!)The Atlantic Ocean was unusually calm this evening. The sun had gone down and the lingering afterglow produced a lovely range of colours.
Peggy’s Cove is a tiny fishing village about 30 miles south of Halifax, Nova Scotia, permanent population about 50, tourist population many thousands. The lighthouse is one of the most photographed spots in Canada. For me it’s been a 50-year love affair with the village and the coastline around it. Easy to reach by road from Halifax, it has innumerable photogenic spots, or just for hiking, shopping for crafts and artifacts of all kinds, and fabulous seafood.

Beautiful shot George – the combination of the lighthouse against the colours of the sunset is amazing.

  • Thanks Bev, most summer and fall sunsets last quite awhile there, but it seemed this one lingered much longer.

    Nice shot George!

  • Many thanks Brian, very much appreciated. My thoughts are with all of you in N.L today re. the helicopter incident. I was living home at the time of the Ocean Ranger and well remember the sad circumstances. I may be a Cape Bretoner but I weep with you all. Take care my friend.

Oh that’s great! If you haven’t been there before, be sure to go to Cape Breton and drive the Cabot Trail. There are quite a few images of it in my gallery, and also on my Yessy site (click the link under my profile) It’s best in mid-september to mid-October when all the leaves turn colour, and the weather is usually excellent. I plan to be there by Sept. 1 and probably stay until late Octrober. If I can help with any suggestions, drop me a BM and ask your questions, I’ll be glad to help out.
