I could never get one to grow this massive, but he can! On Lochside Drive in Sidney, Vancouver Island, my son’s next door neighbour has this huge rhodo on his lawn. I took this shot May 6, 2008 with a Fuji S100FS camera. It had been in full bloom for quite awhile.

Lovely capture, George! I’d love to have this beautiful bush in my yard!

  • Thanks Rachel. I should have had someone standing by it to show it’s size. I’ll try this year :) I judge it to be at least 10-12 feet.

I had absolutely no idea they grew this huge. Spectacular.

  • It’s the biggest one I’ve seen, and for sure the one with the most blooms. It’s really amazing to see.

hooley dooley, that’s big for a private garden alright, my dad managed to get one about 1/3 this size many year back but this is HUGE

  • The man who grew it is 85 now and he told me he “just let it grow” LOL. He’s not sure when he started it but probably quite a few years ago.

Hi George. A Garden somewhere …. is looking for photos of this quality and calibre if you are interested in submitting this photo and any other photos you may have with a garden theme.
    Cheers, Graham.

  • Hello Graham, and thank you for the invitation. I would be happy to submit, and I have just joined the Group. I do have quite a number of garden images, both public and private and I’m sure some of them would be of interest. BTW, I do not do HDR or Orton. Most images are straight from the camera, or at the most with a slight tweak in PS7 or Corel if it seems necessary to do so.

I can just imagine that there’s a little door here somewhere and the inside has a little room for small gardenfolk to meet and drink moonshine. What an amazing colour!

  • lol! There might be..! Glad you liked it, it’s quite a lovely sight when it’s in full bloom.
