In southern Alberta, Canada, at a place called Head-Smashed-In-Buffalo-Jump, in the days before the white man’s invasion of the prairies, the native American Indians conducted buffalo hunts by driving a herd of animals towards the top of these cliffs where they were forced over to crash on the rocks below. Here they were slaughtered and every possible vestige of the bodies was used, for food, shelter, clothing and tools. Nothing was wasted. There is an excellent Interpretative Centre here which is well worth visiting for an exceptional insight into the life and times of this part of the Canadian Prairies.
