The beautiful and very unique 5-span stone bridge is the only one of it’s kind in North America, and is located at the north end of Packenham Village in eastern Ontario, Canada. It was built in 1901 by Scottish stone masons, and crosses the Mississippi River and rapids. (This is in the Township of Mississippi, in Lanark County)
It’s believed to be the only one of its kind in the world outside Russia. It’s 268 feet long, 22 feet high and only 25 feet wide. The largest stone used in construction weighs 5 tonnes.
There is a plaque or historic sign which describes the bridge, which can be viewed at this site under the heading Historical Plaques of Lanark County

and scroll down to Historic Sign No. 8.

What a beautiful shot of this lovely bridge, George! At first glance, I thought it was taken in Scotland, but after reading your info, I see it’s just up the road from me! Will have to check it out this summer.
Hi Mike..yes, it’s a beautiful area, not only the bridge but the village and surrounding countryside. I’d heard of it,it’s a little off to the side of Hwy.17, but we were visiting Arnprior and it’s just a short hop from there.

Been “up the Prior”, but it’s been quite a few years. May have even seen this bridge! Worth a re-visit, for sure.
Thanks so much Kerri, I’m honoured!

Congratulations on your feature George, I guess I am a bit behind here, I thought this was a whole new set of 6 since I got one today, but I think they just featured mine :-))) LOL
Thanks again Vickie, but there’s something odd going on. If you hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have known it was Featured, or the other one either. Nothing has shown up on the “Featured in a Group” for either of them, though you are there twice, along with Blair, Larry and Mike and a couple I haven’t met yet. I’ve had that happen before, maybe something to do with the posting of Features? I don’t know the mechanism involved :)

Should have mentioned, the banner announcement for this one has appeared (just above here) but there was none for the other photo, and neither one were listed in the “Featured to a Group”. Without being in that latter place, it would be hard to know when anything was featured unless someone like you made a comment.
