A Queen arrives. by

Queen Mary II arrives in Halifax,Nova Scotia, for the First Time – September 25, 2004, to the cheers of multi thousands who used every possible vantage point to greet her. It was of special significance, because Halifax was the birthplace and home of Sir Samuel Cunard, founder of the Cunard Line.

She does look majestic, doesn’t she?

  • Really a magnificent ship. I love the traditional style , she looks like a true ocean liner, not one of these floating Vegas strips that we see so often. You’ll notice I had a true waterfront seat..on a rock! lol BTW, there was a Nova Scotia highlander playing the bagpipes right at the tip of the bow. He’s the little spot just to the left of the flag. One of the most emotional days I’ve ever experienced.

Magnificent ship and a magnificent image!!

  • Thanks Bev, I always had a soft spot for the “Queens”, and this one really carries on the tradition.

George I’ll have to watch out for the cruise ships when they come into port here, I believe we are expecting some over the next couple of months.

  • Bev, there is probably a schedule of arrivals/departures that you can get from the tourist bureau or anyone who is responsible for the ship movements in the port. That’s what I monitor here in Victoria and also when I’m back home in Halifax. There’s usually a rotation of ships so if you miss one, you can find out when it will pay a return visit. I assume they do it the same way as here. As a rule, they know the schedule a long way in advance so you can plan your photoshoots.
