July 7, 2007, Martinique Beach, eastern shore of Nova Scotia, Canada. Three kilometers of pristine sand, the Atlantic Ocean, and only us and one other couple. Is this great, or what? And in addition, the beach encompasses a bird sanctuary and boardwalks, and is one of those places where you can always find a spot all by yourself, to enjoy to the fullest.
If you’d like a day hike, go East from Dartmouth on Highway 7/107 until you get to the village of Musquodoboit Harbour. In the village watch for the sign to Martinique Beach, turn right onto that road and follow it to the end. You’ll end up right beside the miles of beach and bird sanctuary. There’s boardwalks, facilities, but no food. Take your own lunch! If you’re a surfer, the waves are usually quite good. Enjoy!
