Touchdown!
If you saw my posting called “Darkness and Light” a few days ago, this is the storm when it really intensified and touched down on a farm in Eastern Ontario, Canada, between Chesterville and Manotick. We parked the car and took pictures as it was moving fast and we were able to get some nice shots in between the rain and gusts of high wind. I’ve posted several other shots of the same storm recently. This one came up very suddenly out of what was a nice fine early evening. The speed it developed was quite amazing.

Astonishing photography!
George Cousins replied
Thanks Dayonda, for the compliment, and also the suggestions. A few of these are new to me and I’ll follow up today.
Rebecca Bryson
HOLY MOLY can you say tornado??? awesome capture!! I would have shot a few too and made sure it wasn’t coming my way.
George Cousins replied
Thank you Rebecca, I don’t think it was an actual tornado, but close to it. I was hoping for some real closeups but the rain came so suddenly and so intense it was impossible to see clearly enough.
mazzfarrell
Wow this is awesome.
George Cousins replied
Thank you, it was pure luck being in the right place at the right time.
rosiczka

Stephen Vecchi...
Excellent tornado shot George !
George Cousins replied
Thanks Stephen, not often I get a chance to see something like this!
It really pays to always have the camera close at hand.
Richard George
Pretty gutsy, not sure I would have attempted this. Great capture!
George Cousins replied
Thank you Richard, but in truth, there wasn’t much choice other than to turn around and reverse direction, and it was a fast moving storm so don’t think it would have worked. But, I’m glad we managed to get some good shots!
Stan Wojtaszek
Great shot, George.
You have a habit of being exactly where I wouldn’t want to be !!
George Cousins replied
Thanks Stan, but you know what it’s like on a lot of secondary roads..where do you go? Anyway, I was pretty sure it wasn’t a true tornado so didn’t expect to become airborne..lol!But it was sure windy and a deluge for a short time.
Caterpillar
WOW!! Amazing shot!! Bravo, well done!!
George Cousins replied
Thank you very much for your kind words. I’m glad you liked it.
Helen Phillips
Wow, I too would be compelled to stay and photograph, but it is still a very scary sight. Well done for capturing it so brilliantly and thanks for sharing!
George Cousins replied
Thank you Helen. I must admit I had some concerns, but there was really nowhere to go, as it was a very fast moving storm. So I kept shooting in between the downpours of rain. There’s several others of the same storm on my site and I think I have a couple still to post.
Cloudia Newland
Oh wow, that’s an amzingly scary looking storm!
George Cousins replied
Yes, it was a bit scary but moving so fast it didn’t matter too much, couldn’t get out of the way!
Rikki Pool
That looks like an insane microburst to me! Very well seen and taken. :)
George Cousins replied
Thanks Rikki, and it’s probably a pretty good description!

Andrew Murrell
WOW!!!! Have been to OK several times to visit friends and I have always missed seeing storms like this. your image is amazing. thanks for sharing.
George Cousins replied
Thanks very much Andrew, but not sure what you mean by OK..Oklahoma maybe? This photo was taken in the eastern part of Ontario province, Canada. They get violent sudden storms like this quite often in the summer and early fall. I was just passing through on my way from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific, and it found us..lol!
kalaryder
What a wonderful capture, but frightening
George Cousins replied
Thanks Kala, it was a storm right out of the blue and no place to go, so the best thing was to sit tight and take pictures. :)
Dennis Jones -...
A big microburst or downburst… Good lighting and capture
George Cousins replied
Thanks Dennis, Not sure exactly what it was, it looked like just a heavy rain cloud and a few minutes later we had this dead ahead.
