Ship of Dreams

Ship of Dreams

I love ships of all kinds, but especially sailing ships. This is the German barque “Gorch Fock” at the entrance to Halifax Harbour, Nova Scotia, during the Tall Ships Festival in July, 2007. Taken with a Sony DSCF828 camera. The ship is a training vessel for the German Navy and does extensive cruises worldwide.

Thanks Bev. I have several hundred photos of sailing ships and others, like ocean liners and such. I’m going to post some more as soon as I can. I know the history of this ship, I’ll send you a BM. It’s an interesting story but too long for here.

Thanks for sharing this…beautiful clouds behind the ship….well done! I’m definitely adding Nova Scotia and the tall ship festival to my list of things to do one day….wonder how long of a drive from Jersey? Perhaps I’ll fly..=)

  • George Cousins replied 7 days ago

Hi reindeer, glad you liked this. The Tall Ship festivals are not held every year, it depends upon the way they are arranged in Europe because they are usually a race from European ports to various ports in North America. You’d have to research them on the Net to get the date, because sometimes they visit the States and not Canada, sometimes the other way around. They have been in NYC,Boston and other ports closer to you. Driving from Jersey to Halifax NS would probably take most of two days. I used to live in Halifax and have driven from there to Boston in a day, but it was a long day..lol..so I think two days would be reasonable but still a pretty steady drive. Flying is a good option, there’s daily service between Boston and Halifax, and maybe other places.

thanks for the info. George…very helpful! I’m still going to see Nova Scotia one day though, ships or no…lol! Or just drive to the tip of Maine and look over. =)
I need to get a passport ….adding to my list.

  • George Cousins replied 4 days ago

Hi again..oh by all means go to Nova Scotia, regardless. You’ll probably see some nice ships anyway, but the province is so beautiful it won’t matter. Don’t miss going to Cape Breton Island and over the Cabot Trail. Allow at least a full day for the Trail, more if you can. Bring an extra card for the camera, or a couple..lol!
