Castle In The Clouds
November 11,2006, driving through an early winter squall from Calgary and into Banff National Park, in the Rocky Mountains, Alberta, Canada. Caught sight of Castle Mountain and stopped to wait until the wind and clouds gave me the view I was looking for. Very cold, but I managed to get several that I liked. I think this one is the best.
The actual name of the mountain is “Castle Mountain” which seemed appropriate for the title.

George, this was well worth the wait, and the cold! I admire this shot so much, and your endurance! – Pat
George Cousins
Thanks to everyone for the kind comments. I’ve seen this mountain at other times, but there’s something about a stormy, windy day that makes a big difference. As long as you have the patience to wait for that one moment, because it doesn’t last long.
Gerry Danen
Hi George,
Great shot! If you’re looking for a name, it’s Castle Mountain)
George Cousins
Thanks Gerry, I knew the name, just decided to make a little play on words. It seemed appropriate, the way the cloud formations happened to come along.
jadeast
Beautiful mountainscape george, in fact it’s breathtaking!

George Cousins replied
Hi, and thanks for the compliment, the title seemed appropriate for the scene. BTW, did you see my photo of dumping the slag near Sudbury, taken back in the 60’s? Called “Valley of Fire” here on RB. I used to do a lot of work at the radar station at Falconbridge. Glad to meet you.
Chuck Wickham

Outstanding shot….Waht a beautiful mountain…great work, glad you waited to get this perfect shot!!!
George Cousins replied
Thank you. It’s a lovely mountain to photograph because it stands relatively alone, but on a stormy day all you can do is be patient and wait for the moment that you hope will arrive. Even then, the wind, sun and clouds combine to create very fleeting moments :)
BarbaraManis

Vickie Emms
enjoy your front page feature George for both of us I’m still waiting for mine :-))
George Cousins replied
Thanks Vickie, it was a total surprise.I very seldom look at the Home Page and if it hadn’t been for folks like you telling me about it, I probably would have missed it. Though come to think of it, one message was from RB so I guess not. Anyway, I never expected to get on it. Knowing what’s in your portfolio, we both know you’ll be there too, so I hope you get a really big surprise the same way I did. It does feel quite great but also humbling, when you think of the quantity and quality of the competition. BTW, I finally got my partner Jann Ashworth started on RB, and we’re hoping to get to the Rockies in the next week or two. She’s only did a few postings so far but lots more to come.
Vickie Emms

Wow George this really is a commendable capture. You got the lighting so perfect in every way…Excellent work my friend…My Congrats on your many features...inst fave for me…In regards to my trip to Victoria, I think I will wait until later in June, the last time I was there, back 6 years ago, the weather was just lousy, but I know one can not predict the weather…Catch you later…Take care now.
George Cousins replied 24 days ago
Hi Larry, and many thanks for the kind words. That image was my very first posting on RB, Nov.11 last year. It was a cold wait but the sun finally gave me a very short break! I was partially kidding you about January,(lol) but the rainy stuff usually tapers off in March or early April and everything is in full bloom by then. But, you’re right, who can predict the weather? Be glad to see you whenever you get here!
