Carpobrotus glaucescens and friends
This native pig face is amazing. Known as a coastal sand dune plant this specimen is growing in my garden at 850m asl where it receives very little water [less than 300mm rain for the whole year so far], intense heat and sun in summer and snow and frosts to -8C in winter. As soon as it warms up it grows and flowers like crazy.
Can you spot its friends? One native bee sits expectantly on the flower to the far right. There are also two tiny grasshoppers to be found if you look hard enough.
