Dragon’s Law

Lazily the dragon circled spying out its prey with a glint in its eye it sensed what it sort swiftly and stealthily it swooped down intent on an instant kill. Totally benign were the two travellers of their deadly plight, wandering hand in hand contemplating their journey ahead, it was Jamarl who first felt the agonizing pain saturate his entire body as the five needle sharp talons sunk into him breaking bone as they squeezed through his flesh, unaware to the beast, Jamarl purposely kicked his wife June with his first and last death throw, his foot collided with her shoulder throwing her off balance so as that the dragon only caught half of her body, feeling that something was wrong he landed himself on the ground to examine his kill, seeing her writhing in pain and grief, shame filled his enormous body from tip to tail, slowly he sunk his head down to the wounded and dead body, June forced herself to turn her head and watch her killers final blow and put an end to it all though much to her surprise giant tear drops began pouring down saturating them both, immediately her pain vanished and the gaping wounds in her dead husband began to close and heal in shocked dismay she slowly leaned over Jamarl and in a terrified voice she asked the dragon “How dare you heal me now that you have killed my husband?” Her voice rose to shrill scream “I don’t want to live.” At all the noise Jamarl awoke and nearly startled June to death, she went limp and pale blinking dumbly at him, he nearly regained his senses immediately jumping to his feet pulling June to hers they began splinting for their lives, then came smashing down the dragon’s tail blocking their path. They slowly turned to look at the beast and to their astonishment in a cool graceful voice the dragon said “Please allow me to apologize, but it is all dragon’s kind law that if its prey does not immediately die the dragon must feel so disgraced so as to bring it to tears, and as you most likely don’t know for it rarely happens but a dragons tears heal all ailments including death. And now you must go for my appetite is eagerly returning.” And with that he slid his tail from their path and watched them run as he launched himself back to the skies to search out his next feed.
