The road to Punmu

The road to Punmu

This is the old Bedford truck that made the road to Punmu – a remote Aboriginal community in the Western Desert about 600km east of Port Hedland.

The old red truck, with the red dirt in the sunset light was to irresistible not to shoot. This truck was the only vehicle to make the roads over hundreds of kilometres over rough arid land. Luckily the roads now are great considering the remoteness, though, when the rain comes I have been told they turn into rivers!

Three weeks ago I went up to Punmu for work to photograph the Martu Sports Festival. It was an amazing experience and a magical place with beautiful people.
