I love it! The menacing look of the harpoon… the innocent and ‘What the F**k’ look of the whales expression, and the parody of the Japanese excuse for their whaling fleet. Three great messages rolled up into a simple and powerful expression.
It’s the “Ink and Paint” shader, and I think it works in scanline and in Mental Ray (in max). It’s pretty fun, and I chucked a bit of an explanation of it up in the tutorials section, under Vector art in 3dsmax, or something like that :)
I tend to always render in Mental Ray, but that’s more or less just out of habit.
