The Momentary Lightness of Being by Geoff Coleman - Landscapes

Lee dancing on the cliff edge. The colour in the top cloud is the moon halo.

The good news for this shot was that this lovely rockpool lined up beautifully with the moonpath. The bad news was that the rockpool was perched on the edge of a cliff and between the top of the pool and the edge of the cliff there was only an 8" sliver of rock for Lee to stand on. Plus it was blowing a gale (that blur at Lee’s back is her hair blowing in the wind and the chill factor was less than 10 degrees). All Lee had on was this strapless flimsy dress and she kept having to hop out of shot to put her coat and boots on to warm up. And then the idiot photographer would say things to her like “Can you do some rotating pirouettes?” and she had to remind him “You know I’m standing on the edge of a cliff here!” and then shed did them anyway!! It certainly helped that Lee used to be a gymnast but brave or what!!

So who would like to volunteer to be my next model :-)

Shot off the Bundeena Cliffs, Royal National Park, Sydney Australia.

Catherine just wrote this beautiful poem to accompany this pic – how cool is that!

When darkness transcends into the silent beauty
that is night
Would you join me in the magic of a momentary
ray of light?
that holds all our dreams, our wishes, our desires
in fragility
On the cliff, the pull so strong
yet drunk with a lightness of being song
I dance
Behold, beware
only moments apart
the end, the light
where only our truth
could do it right
there where only naked surrender can be
take my hand
dance with me

Simply sensational work Geoff, and you have a wonderfully brave, talented and indulgent to her photographer model. I hope you paid her danger money??? Love the touch of colour around the moon.

  • I sure do (or did – I think she’s had enough – can’t understand why!! lol). Lee’s done two shoots for me now and was brilliant, patient, generous and gracious on both. I learnt so much doing these shots – working with Lee has been one of the highlight experiences since first picking up a camera for me.

  • Thank you. Considering I paid her nothing that wouldn’t be hard! You sure you won’t reconsider!!??

Beautiful shot. You have a brave girlfriend. She looks great in the shot.

  • Thanks elisab but Lee isn’t my girlfriend – she is happily married to a very lucky man.
