Moon Stream - Startrails version
Best viewed large to see the startrails
15 X 30 second exposures (blended in PS so effectively a 7.5 minute exposure) of the clouds streaming over the Pinnacles in Gardens of Stone NP. Would have liked to have got more but it started to sleet.
Really interesting the way the clouds ended up radiating out from where the moon just happened to be when I just happened to be there to shoot it. I find rather beautiful coincidences like that happen a lot with landscape photography – weird but I’m certainly not complaining.
if you missed the first shot in this series it’s here
Also curiously the colour balance averaged out across the 15 exposures so less blue looking sky than the first image. In that one I had to stick with the auto colour balance or the clouds went really muddy coloured. Always trade-offs with photography.

You are so good at these Geoff…I bet the detail is brilliant with the 1 Ds Mk III
Geoff Coleman... replied
Thanks Max – glad you think so. Yes the 1Ds is very good with detail, plus it means you can crop away most of an image and still get a high-res section from a shot.
Martin Muir

I love the little peek of blue on the bottom right of the clouds – didnt notice it at first. Wonderful shot – they are all so different and yes, you are the Man when it comes to this genre Geoff. Keep it up mate!

Geoff Coleman... replied
You know the process well – yes after all that “cooking” when the final image pops up out of the blackness of the screen it’s like what it must have felt like working on images in the darkroom. Thanks mate.

You are the absolute master at this type of photography – if anyone knew how much dedication and technical expertise this takes….I like the basically black anchor of the mountainous area and the explosion of moon light and stars – in awe Geoff, in awe!~
Geoff Coleman... replied
Ahh thanks mate for your great comment – really appreciate it. Yes it was that silhouette of the mountains that got me as well. Just couldn’t believe the moon was there and then that cloudbank sweeping over dead centre. Serendipity is a beautiful thing.

Robert Brindley
G’day Geoff,
As you can see I’m a Bubbler now and what do I see from you? Another amazing, hard fought cracker of an image. If this was taken recently then I imagine you were freezing your butt off sitting all that time in the dark!!
This one is certainly the best of the series, I think, as the clouds have a little more clarity, it has a little touch of blue ( where that would come from is anybody’s guess) and the stars streaking in time exposed trajectory. Magic.
Geoff Coleman... replied
Mr. Brindley – welcome to the Bubble! Watch out – this place is even more addictive than Flickr – I’ve just about transferred across here full time now – so many more aspects to it than Flickr. Glad you like this one and yes it was bitterly cold.
