If You Would But Bend
Driving home from Garie Beach as the sun edged towards setting I rounded a bend in the road and nearly ran off the road. A golden light was streaming through an angophora forest rendering the leaves translucent and picking up the vivid orange of the bark of the trees. It was utterly mesmerising. This is my attempt to capture it the next day when I brought the camera with me.
I adore angophoras – if a tree could have acute arthritis it would look like an agophora – they start twisting and bending and gnarling almost as soon as they sprout and often the arching branches are almost as thick as the trunk which tends to pull the whole tree over so they grow sideways as often as they grow vertically. Each year the rough outer bark peals off to reveal this vibrant orange beautifully smooth trunk. And on top of that they are absolutely brilliant climbing trees.
Garie Beach is in Royal National Park just south of Sydney.

Well thanks for the interesting facts to go along with this image Geoff. They really do look fantastic as they weave their way around in whatever space is left available and the orange glow of the barks does look unique. The orange interplays well with the green caught in the light
Mel Brackstone
They look how I feel!

Not at all Trace – standing in the middle of an angophora grove is both beautiful and creepy because the tortured shapes of the trees are straight out of childhood nightmares and fairytales I think which is one of the reasons I love them so. Thanks for your lovely comment and feedback on the title – sometimes they come quickly and other times, like this one, it took ages – but I guess you know all about that!

oh yeah…and brilliant title.
