Sometimes it can be hard to separate the identity of people from the identity of their city. People can be defined by their city and a city by its people … they can fight with, for or against a ‘place’ and each other. They can love their home and each other and their home can help or hinder their love.
This was an experiment with some ideas of both people and a city: sleeping, loving, fighting, weeping.
A very different direction for me. I wanted to simplify the details in the painting to possibly put more focus on the meaning.
a very idea rich work- one can take it many places- like where the city line has been placed- leads one to many interpretations- a wonderful work
Thanks Fred, it’s really great to get that feedback from you. Yes it can go in a variety of directions.

you know what first came to mind due to the placement of the city and the female figure- was “mother” earth resting underneath and given the times a somewhat troubled and unsettling rest-
Well, now that interpretation is far better than I could have done! I LOVE that idea of her resting underneath the earth … and the troubled and unsettling concept. Really appreciate your considered comments.
It’s a bit of a different one but I really enjoyed doing it .. I hope to explore more of this sort of style as it allows some interesting concepts to be explored in a rather flexible way. Really appreciate your comment and your fav.
