According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the current suicide rate for men in Australia is more than three times the rate of women. But research shows that encouraging men (and young men in particular) to share their feelings and their experiences has a huge impact on their health and wellbeing. more here
A book for men by men (and a few women)
A group of Australian men have banded together to create a book about some of the tough issues facing the average Aussie bloke. The book, The Perfect Gift for a Man – 30 Stories about Reinventing Manhood aims to get men talking about their feelings in a bid to help prevent male suicide in Australia.
I’m really happy to have a part in this really wonderful project. Two of my paintings have been published in it as have some good friends’ beautiful writing.
A great cause and a great present
Touched by the mental health, drug and alcohol problems facing young Australian men, bloggers Gavin Heaton and Mark Pollard appealed to their readers, friends and family to honestly share the intense emotions and experiences of being a man.
This collection of stories has been published into a high quality book, using online creative publishing website Blurb.com’s self-publishing capability.

Good on you Genevieve for promoting this. A very important cause and a very hidden problem (male depression) , the more men speak to each other the greater possibility for reducing the stigma among men and reducing the private suffering of many men the social cost of this problem to society . Thanks V. Yes I think one of the things that is so great with what the guys have done with this, is it’s not just like any other fundraiser – the actual process of writing and sharing is important. I like things that get right back to the basics of an issue : )

This is great news, I think the old models for men are like jeans wore too tight, painful restricting and actually do nothing for overall virility even if they look impressive.
