About “Slices in Time Collection” Jenny Davis 2013
In creating my artwork I use various processes. By physically dismantling objects and clothing then reassembling them into something else, my intention is to reconstruct the meaning, or purpose of an object, from its earlier meaning and appearance.
The process, materials and final arrangement of " Slices in Time Collection" link to the extravagant still-life paintings of the Renaissance period and to, Joseph Beuy’s installations “Infiltration for Piano/1996 The Skin 1984” I viewed in Paris in 2010.
It was while I was standing in front of this work that I came to a realisation, that we may recognise familiar objects, but, it’s in their arrangement into unfamiliar positions that surprise and transform the way we perceive the former.
Using light as my source to separate layers,“Slices in Time” is a contemporary “coup d’oeil” ( glimpse) of a fragment in time.
