My studio in Spain.
In 2005 I was awarded a 4 week arts residency in Barcelona Spain. This would be my first time overseas. Even though the award consisted of free accomadation , studio and all meals I really didnt think I had a chance of going as I still had to find money for airfares, living expenses etc.

Luck was with me,I sold a few paintings at the next exhibition, raffled off another one, sold stuff on ebay and thanks to the kindness of a couple of dear family members I raised enough to go.

Not only to Spain, but England and other countries in Europe.

I had the best time of my life and came home to oz not only with 50 new paintings I created , but with a heap of new art friends.
We still all keep in contact often and had a cross/cultural exhibition together, in USA last year. We intend to continue doing this and will include one in Melbourne in the future

Starting out primarily as an abstract painter and sculptor, Jenny’s arts practice has evolved and crosses over into many areas and disciplines. Recycling and reusing items in her work is very important. Stuff that usually goes into landfills and gleaned from the streets of Melbourne and Paris, or wherever she travels. Street litter, food packaging, advertising materials and all kind of paper ephemera are collected and saved for this purpose.

I like the texture and color in your work (photographs and paintings!). I also love how you incorporate your paintings into your photography.

Thank you for the insight and inspiration. I love peaking into the lives of successful artists and envisage myself there one day. As they say if you can’t dream it it is unlikely to happen. Again thanks and I enjoyed your profile too

That is such a wonderful story Jenny. Being overseas as an artist who has a studio and can get work done is a blast. I was able/blessed/fortunate to have that experience in Dublin way back in 2001 and it still resonates with such freshness and energy that it trips me out at times. Good luck and the best.

  • Congratulations on the Dublin residency.Yes, its great to have the time to create without interruptions and not having to deal with other things in life.
