I have no idea what a “solar print” is but this is just beautiful! I love the sepia tones and the childlike element you have created.

an etching made from solar plates using sun to develop the plate then warter to etch it. (avoids yucky etching chemicals but does not etch as finely, less control) thanks for the lovely comment.

This is lovely, so fantastic. Now I am a printmaker, well I consider myself to be one as I have the press and the studio and this is what I do. But help I too have never done a solar print, can you give us a lesson or send us to a link that helps us understand the process? I think its marvelous if we don’t have to work with chemicals. I’m all for that and so are my cats and dogs! Billy

I learnt solar printing from an artist called Serafina. I think she is on the web. It was a long time ago. You need sheets of photographic material to develop it which using your image on acetate sandwiched between glass, you develop in the sun or in a dark room. Wash off in complete darkness then use plate as per etching. It is hard to control without a dark room and I am not sure where to get the material anymore. (sorry not very helpful)

Thanks genevievem, sounds hard to do, glad you have this image to remember your friend who taught you at the time. There are so many ways to produce a print. That is why I love printmaking so much. Whilst we are tapping away on the computer someone is making a print in their own technique right now. Its exploratory, that is why I love printmaking so much.

I had such a hard time knowing which painting to click on first but this won out. I like the earthy tones to it and of course I’m lovin’ the flowers. A nap at the table beside tea and bread ….. you’ve done well my fellow artist, very well.

I really like this. Lovely textures and well ballanced. I like the position and placement of the figure and the shapes this has created. The hair and the hands particularly contribute to this.
The angle of the cup and saucer echo these angles. There are many more interesting aspects in this image. I enjoyed looking at this work.
