Ode to Almodovar

Did anyone ever see that film “Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown” otherwise known as,”Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios” (which does sound a lot cooler). Well this pic reminds me of that film, hence the title.

Ink pen and watercolour on cheap watercolour paper. The pen kept ripping up the cheap textured paper so the pen strokes are quite raggedy. Need some Arches smooth!!

Ode to Almodovar belongs to the following groups:

1 on 1: The Fine Art of Portraiture , Art Nouveau and the Arts & Crafts Movement, Finks of Inks, Mixed Media, Shameless Self-Promotion, thick black outlines, Water Media (Paintings by hand only) and Works On Paper Available for sale as

Merci Josette, je suis tres contente avec les couleurs, quand c’etait juste en encre noir je ne l’aimais pas mais avec les couleurs ca marche beaucoup mieux.

And, I believe I did see that film! At least, if I didn’t, then I saw one in French that was quite mad, and should have been named that. There was one man in the house and he died, or they thought he did. Sound familiar?

Love the tilt of her head, her EYES of course are wonderful, the curls and swirls of the lovely brown hair and the way the ‘real’ roses are echoed in her dress.
A very eye catching piece of art (no pun intended)

  • genevievem replied 9 days ago

thanks so much gottheshot, I love drawing roses like this and the swirls of hair were fun with ink, got a bit messy, hence the splodges.

What an eye catching portrait. I think if the woman is on the verge of a nervous breakdown, the raggedy ink edges are perfect!

  • genevievem replied 9 days ago

thanks Maryann, that is what I thought too. This portrait reminded me of the leading character in that film.

Talking of splodges. Here’s a thought for you, Genevieve.
wabi sabi – a Japanese saying. In essence it means to find MORE beauty in anything that is NOT perfect. Letting the imperfections be part of life. Anything that is TOO PERFECT is ‘clinical’.
Its official: I LOVE IT JUST THE WAY IT IS :D

  • genevievem replied 8 days ago

I love that saying! thanks so much, it really works in art. a friend was telling me about rug makers who will make a mistake in the work just to add to the beauty!

In photography I find it more than anywhere else. Myabe its to do with ‘making an error is human nature – rather than a machne. Machines can’t ‘put their sould’ into making something.
Cos I will be taking a photo of people in a candid and then someone walks past at the back. Or a take a photo of a leaf and a lot of the tree will be shade and the other leaves look dark and boring and no colour. Its like taking a photo of a sports car with a black or white background – ‘clinical’
Final one Chrsi Ecan, a DJ, spent £5,000,000 on a Ferarri just cos an actor James Coburn owned it AND THE PAINT WAS CHIPPED !! You can buy a brand new Ferarri for £100,000.
So pleased you liked the saying – it gets me ‘through’ when I don’t like something in my photos.:D
